Living Well with a Disability is an eight-week health promotion workshop for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. It is based on research designed to reduce the occurrence of secondary conditions -- those health related conditions that develop as a result of a person's original disability or chronic illness. Secondary conditions can limit a person's independence and participation in activities.

Who can facilitate a Living Well group?
Living Well materials are written so that laypersons, peer counselors or health professionals can teach them. To maintain the quality and consistency of the program, we do request that all facilitators receive training through the Research and Training Center on Disability in Rural Communities. Aside from the information provided in the training, no additional expertise is required for facilitating a successful Living Well group.
There are three types of trainings:
Web-based: Trainers and facilitator trainees connect via conference calls and the Internet for four two-hour, real-time sessions. Each facilitator trainee receives a Living Well with a Disability manual and learns the materials and techniques necessary to help people with disabilities set quality-of-life goals that lead to healthy lifestyle changes. Alternative format materials are available on request.
Cost per trainee: $250 for groups of 4-6 people and $200 for groups of 7-10 people, plus long distance telephone charges.
On-site Training: A trainer will travel to your location and conduct a two-day, fourteen-hour workshop for up to 20 facilitator trainees.
Cost: $2,500, plus travel expenses.
Summer/Winter Training Institutes: Come to Missoula, Montana for your training and take advantage of our state's fly-fishing opportunities, ski resorts, national parks and great beauty! Two-day institutes provide fourteen hours of training for up to 40 facilitator trainees.
Cost: $495 per person. Travel expenses are the responsibility of each individual or sponsoring organization.
