On the same menu plan, residents with lower BMI gained weight; residents with higher BMI lost weight.  There were nine individuals in the weight gain group.  The average weight gain was 4.2 pounds.  The range of weight gain was 2 pounds to 10 pounds.  The average baseline BMI was 22.1, with a range of 17.2 to 28.7.  The average post-intervention BMI was 22.7, with a range of 17.9 to 28.7.  There were twelve individuals in the weight loss group.  The average weight loss was 4.4 pounds.  The range of weight lost was 2 pounds to 12 pounds.  The average baseline BMI was 28.9, with a range of 22.8 to 35.5.  The average post-intervention BMI was 28.1, with a range of 22.1 to 34.7.  For all individuals, the baseline variance across BMI categories (difference between the lowest and highest BMI scores) was 18.1, with a range of 17.4 to 35.5.  For all individuals, the post-intervention variance across BMI categories was 16.3, with a range of 18.4 to 34.7.
