All of Us Research Project

Call to Action!

Why should you particiBe one in a million. All of us.pate in the All of Us Research program?

The Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities and the American Association on Health and Disability (AAHD) is calling on all people with disabilities to learn more about and consider involvement in the Nation Institutes of Health’s (NIH) All of Us Research Program. The slogan “Nothing About Us Without Us” communicates the notion that no policy or practice should be created without full and direct participation from the disability community.  Historically, people with disabilities have been excluded or ignored from research studies. That ends now because of the All of Us Research Program! The All of Us Research Program is your chance to make an impact and get involved in direct, cutting edge research to find solutions that could help people with disabilities. For the first time people with disabilities are being asked to enroll in a study that can directly impact how health care is receive in the future.

The All of Us Research Program is a nationwide research program focused on precision medicine, also known as personalized medicine, to help researchers understand more about why people get sick or stay healthy. Health care has traditionally followed the same approach using a “one-size-fits-all” method, by prescribing treatment for diagnoses based on the average patient. Now, thanks to recent precision medicine initiatives, physicians are working toward tailoring treatment plans to the individual.

The All of Us Research program plans to recruit one million or more people to share their health and lifestyle data. When you join the program you will be contributing to an effort to improve the health of future generations while also advancing precision medicine and learning more about your own health through better testing, better medicine and more information presented to you. By looking for patterns in  biological, environmental and behavioral factors, researchers may learn more about what affects people’s health and, in turn, the best way to treat them. Participation is especially important for people with disabilities when you consider that people with disabilities have been previously left out of biomedical research. This is your chance to change how medicine works and to solidify the slogan, “nothing about us without us”. A note from  Eric Dishman, Director of All of Us research

This was the year that the All of Us Research Program opened our doors to everyone. So far over 150,000 of you have started to participate in the program, answering our call to improve the future of health! We are pleased to share that 100,000 of you have completed all the first steps. We are well on our way to speeding up health breakthroughs to drive individualized prevention and treatment for all of us. For all that we’ve achieved over the past year, 2019 promises to be just as exciting with our focus on getting and giving information.  For highlights from 2018 All of Us research program please watch the following video! Knowing and acting on your family health history is an important way to protect your health. Doctors use family health history to develop a more complete picture of your health and your risk factors for disease.  You and your family members share genes and may also share behaviors that contribute to your health. The All of Us Research Program is a medical study that will advance the future of medicine. If you have a family health history of disease, you may have the most to gain from participating in the All of Us Research Program. Your family health history could help change the future of health and may help improve health for generations to come. Learn more at #JoinAllofUs All of Us logo

All of US research project wants to bring precision medicine to every American. But what is precision medicine? Precision medicine is a revolutionary approach to treating and preventing disease that is personalized instead of a one size fits all approach.

Group of people

By gathering data from 1 million people, our country’s best researchers will be able to develop treatments that are as complex and unique as we are.  Not all people are the same. Yet when we visit the doctor all treatments look the same. Why is that?  We just don’t have enough information to do it better, until now. Click on the following link for more information on precision medicine and how to enroll in the All of Us research project.

Group of 9 diverse people standingThe All of Us Research Program is a historic effort to gather data from one million or more people living in the United States to accelerate research and improve health. By taking into account individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and biology, researchers will uncover paths toward delivering precision medicine.

Precision medicine is health care that is based on you as an individual. It takes into account factors like where you live, what you do, and your family health history. Precision medicine’s goal is to be able to tell people the best ways to stay healthy. If someone does get sick, precision medicine may help health care teams find the treatment that will work best.

The national enrollment for All of Us Research Project is open now! All eligible adults who live in the United States can join the All of Us Research Program. People of every race, ethnicity, sex, gender, disability, and sexual orientation are welcome.

Joining the All of Us Research Program is free and won’t cost you anything more than a little bit of your time.

By taking into account individual differences in lifestyle, socioeconomics, environment, and biology, researchers will uncover paths toward delivering precision medicine –or individualized prevention, treatment, and care –for all of us. This Research Program aims to recruit 1 million or more volunteers and oversample communities that have been underrepresented in research to make the program the largest, most diverse resource of its kind. The national enrollment for All of Us Research Project is open now!

All eligible adults who live in the United States can join the All of Us Research Program. People of every race, ethnicity, sex, gender, disability, and sexual orientation are welcome.

small group of diverse people If you decide to join the All of Us Research Program, we will ask you to share different kinds of information. We will ask you basic information like your name and where you live. We will ask you questions about your health, family, home, and work. If you have an electronic health record, we may ask for access. We may ask you to go to a local clinic or drug store for a free appointment with us.
