Montana Human Rights Network<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Law Help<\/a> Provides legal information and resources to low and moderate-income Montana residents. The site now offers “LiveHelp” which connects visitors to a legal specialist who can help them find online information and resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Legal Services Association<\/a> is part of the national Legal Services Corporation, a federally funded not-for-profit corporation which provides legal assistance to low-income clients with civil problems. Eligible clients do not need to pay for services, although court costs and related fees may still be the client’s responsibility. <\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Long-term Care Ombudsman Program<\/span><\/a> Long-term Care Ombudsmen are advocates for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Mental Disabilities Board of Visitors<\/a> Provides independent oversight of Montana’s residential facilities for people with developmental disabilities and mental health facilities for people with mental illnesses, and assures that their treatment is humane, consistent with established clinical and other professional standards, and meets the standards set by state law. Advocates for development of high-quality, effective, compassionate treatment services and protects the rights of people receiving services from Montana’s residential and mental health facilities. <\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Statewide Independent Living Council<\/a> Jointly develops the State Plan for Independent Living with Montana Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living Centers. The Council also monitors, reviews, and evaluates the implementation of the State Plan. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Youth Leadership Forum<\/a> is a career and leadership training program for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with disabilities. Parents, Let’s Unite for Kids (PLUK)<\/a> is a private, nonprofit organization formed in 1984 by Montana parents of children with disabilities and chronic illnesses to provide information, support, training and assistance useful to their children at home, school and as adults. PLUK serves families and individuals with disabilities of any age and at no cost. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rocky Mountain Americans with Disabilities Act Leadership Network<\/a> Provides assistance on ADA implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Working for Equality and Economic Liberation<\/a> (Helena) WEEL is a grassroots, economic and social justice organization made up of people experiencing poverty. WEEL members and their supporters use advocacy, action, and education to eradicate the myths, stereotypes, and stigmas that are harmful to low-income families. Association for the Rights of Citizens with Disabilities, The ARC <\/a>Educates the public about the needs of this nation’s 6 million citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Autism National Committee<\/a> is the only autism advocacy organization dedicated to “Social Justice for All Citizens with Autism” through a shared vision and a commitment to positive approaches. AUTCOM protects and advances the human rights and civil rights of all persons with autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and related differences of communication and behavior. <\/span><\/p>\n

Autistic Self-Advocacy Network<\/a> is a non-profit organization run by and for Autistic people to provide support and services to individuals on the autism spectrum while working to change public perception and combat misinformation by educating communities about persons on the autism spectrum. <\/span><\/p>\n

Barrier Breakers<\/a> This for-profit business offers Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS) writing, benefits counseling, and training services. Beach Center on Disability<\/a> Publishes books, manuals and other materials on self-determination. Self-determination is the concept that a person with a disability should have the opportunity to choose what happens to himself, to receive education that enables him or her to make a choice, to be supported in making\/carrying out a choice, and (consistent with age of majority and competence\/incompetence) to be assured that others will heed the choice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brain Injury Resource Center<\/a> site is for those who want to learn about the effects of brain injury in daily life.<\/p>\n

Disability Data in National Surveys<\/a><\/span> The federal government collects extensive disability survey and administrative data used by federal and state agencies for a variety of purposes. Emergency Evacuation Preparedness: Taking Responsibility for Your Safety. A Guide for People with Disabilities and Other Activity Limitations<\/a><\/em>, available in pdf, html and Word formats.<\/span><\/p>\n

Express Yourself!<\/a> Self-determination tool from the UIC National Research and Training Center on Psychiatric Disability. Users can pinpoint areas of their lives (such as money or relationships) where they’d like to have more control and decision-making power, and then learn how to get started by using action-planning and web-based resources. Areas covered in this self-assessment include finances, housing, transportation, employment, community integration, medical treatment, and mental health care. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tardive Dyskinesia Center<\/a> Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a movement disorder caused by taking certain neurological medications. TD is a result of damage to the bodily systems that process dopamine, and is typically caused by exposure to certain neurological medications – including Reglan. The symptoms of TD are irreversible and incurable, and mimic those of Parkinson\u2019s disease. Tardive dyskinesia victims have involuntary, repetitive movements which often continue after the drug is no longer used. The center has the most up-to-date information on Tardive Dyskinesia Treatment<\/a> options. Additionally, it distributes free wristbands to all users in hopes of raising TD awareness.<\/p>\n

Choteau Activities<\/a> is a small, private, non-profit corporation in Choteau which provides work activity, day program, community homes, transitional living, independent living and transportation services to adults with developmental disabilities. <\/span><\/p>\n

Community Option Resource (COR) Enterprises<\/a> (Billings) Career Guidance Center provides work opportunities for individuals who have difficulty obtaining or maintaining jobs due to occupational barriers. Services include assessments, training, real-work situations, supported employment, anger management, driver’s education, personal and social services, and direct placement services. Also provides supported living and community support services for those in need of in-home support.<\/span><\/p>\n

Consumer Direct Personal Care<\/a> (Billings & Missoula offices, but coverage is statewide) allows individuals of any age with health care needs to remain in their homes and communities and to avoid placement in an institution. This program is for individuals who are capable of directing their own personal care services or appointing a Personal Representative to act on their behalf. Program requirements include: eligibility for Montana Medicaid; need for assistance with activities of daily living; need for assistance with instrumental activities of daily living; authorization by a health care professional that assistance is necessary; and completion of an assessment for placement in the program. <\/span><\/p>\n

Counterpoint Inc.<\/a> (Livingston) is a private, nonprofit corporation that has provided services to adults with disabilities in Park County since 1976. Counterpoint provides residential, vocational and transportation services to approximately 30 adults with disabilities who meet eligibility for funding through the Developmental Disabilities Program or who are referred by Vocational Rehabilitation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Developmental Educational Assistance Program<\/a> (Miles City) is a private not for profit corporation that provides family education and support, residential, and crisis intervention services to families whose children are birth to 18 years of age and adults. Services are provided in 28 eastern Montana counties. The main office is located in Miles City with satellite offices in Glendive, Lame Deer and Colstrip.<\/span><\/p>\n

Easter Seals\/Goodwill, Northern Rocky Mountain<\/a> (Great Falls) Provides day care and preschool services to children with and without disabilities; serves adults with developmental disabilities, the elderly and adults with medical or physical disabilities; provides clinical services, including case management, home health care, home care, private-duty nursing, psychosocial rehabilitation, mental health counseling and case management and hospice; provides job-training and transitional employment for people with disabilities or other barriers to employment to assist them in finding and keeping a job; and provides free information and referral services, educational programs and durable equipment loans. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mission Mountain Enterprises<\/a> (Polson & Ronan) Provides personal and social services, and group home, apartment, roommate, home rental, and home ownership living arrangements for people with disabilities, based on each individual’s preferences, abilities and strengths, needs, and life span issues. <\/span><\/p>\n

Missoula Developmental Services Corporation<\/a> Operates seven group residences located in typical neighborhoods and offering a variety of experiences and options for residential living. Services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. MDSC also provides day services, with instructional emphasis on vocational skills, and including communication, survival skills and specialized therapies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Montana Adaptive Equipment Program<\/a> offers adaptive equipment services to Montanans with developmental disabilities. Services include an equipment recycle program, equipment loan, purchase of new equipment, and professional evaluations for determination of appropriate adaptive equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project MED<\/a> (Medication EDucation for Consumers) Medication information booklets, published by the Nisonger Center, provide patients with understandable information about the medications they are taking. Services include assessments, training, real-work situations, supported employment, and direct placement services. Counterpoint Inc.<\/a> (Livingston) is a private, nonprofit corporation that has provided services to adults with disabilities in Park County since 1976. Big Sky Rx – Medicare Prescription Assistance<\/a> Montana state program to help pay drug-coverage premiums for eligible Montanans enrolled in a prescription drug plan under Medicare Part D. The program was created by the 2005 Legislature and is funded with tobacco tax revenue. To be eligible for the program, you must be a Montana resident, be a Medicare recipient, and have a family income of 200 percent or less of the federal poverty level. <\/span><\/p>\n

MammaCare Breast Self-examination Program for Women who are Blind or Visually Impaired<\/a> Commercial site features a patented, tactually accurate model with a ribbon “necklace” to keep the model correctly positioned during training. Raised markers guide the woman while examining the model. The model contains small lumps that are virtually impossible to detect without training. <\/span> The system includes an audiocassette and a descriptive video that teach proficient BSE through a series of carefully designed exercises, conducted first on the model and then on the woman herself. The kit also contains a large print booklet and Braille instructions.<\/span><\/p>\n
