Flathead Deaf Club A group of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people who meet regularly for social and recreational activities on the first Saturday of each month.
Living Well with a Disability Based at The University of Montana Rural Institute, this 8-week Health Promotion Workshop teaches tools that help people with disabilities continue to do the things they enjoy. Topics include goal setting, problem solving, optimistic thinking, avoiding depression, healthy communication, information seeking, nutrition, physical activity, advocacy and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Montana Bar Association – Public Assistance
Montana Center on Disabilities at Montana State University-Billings collaborates with campus, regional, state and national programs in support of increasing the number of leaders with disabilities. MCD sponsors an annual leadership conference for young Montanans with disabilities.
Montana Coalition against Domestic and Sexual Violence
Montana Council on Developmental Disabilities Citizen-based advocacy group appointed by Montana’s Governor. The Council administers federal funds to help provide comprehensive services to persons with developmental disabilities; to help the state in appropriate planning activities; and to contract with public and private agencies to establish model programs, demonstrate innovative habilitation techniques and to train professional and paraprofessional personnel who provide services to persons with developmental disabilities.

Adult Protective Services (Senior and Long Term Care Division)
Montana Fair Housing Full service, private, non-profit organization dedicated to the reduction and eradication of housing discrimination in Montana. Serves Montana housing providers and consumers and responds to inquiries and discriminatory housing complaints. Provides information and support to consumers and industry representatives, investigates allegations of housing discrimination, counsels victims of housing discrimination and assists them in filing federal and state complaints.
Montana Governor’s Department of Public Health and Human Services Advisory Boards and Councils Advises the Governor’s Office, the Department of Administration, and the Department of Public Health and Human Services on issues affecting the implementation of the federal American with Disabilities Act (ADA) in state government.
Montana Law Help Provides legal information and resources to low and moderate-income Montana residents. The site now offers “LiveHelp” which connects visitors to a legal specialist who can help them find online information and resources.
Montana Legal Services Association is part of the national Legal Services Corporation, a federally funded not-for-profit corporation which provides legal assistance to low-income clients with civil problems. Eligible clients do not need to pay for services, although court costs and related fees may still be the client’s responsibility.
Montana Long-term Care Ombudsman Program Long-term Care Ombudsmen are advocates for residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Montana Mental Disabilities Board of Visitors Provides independent oversight of Montana’s residential facilities for people with developmental disabilities and mental health facilities for people with mental illnesses, and assures that their treatment is humane, consistent with established clinical and other professional standards, and meets the standards set by state law. Advocates for development of high-quality, effective, compassionate treatment services and protects the rights of people receiving services from Montana’s residential and mental health facilities.
Montana Statewide Independent Living Council Jointly develops the State Plan for Independent Living with Montana Vocational Rehabilitation and Independent Living Centers. The Council also monitors, reviews, and evaluates the implementation of the State Plan.
Montana Youth Leadership Forum is a career and leadership training program for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with disabilities. By serving as delegates from their communities at a 5-day intensive training, youth with disabilities cultivate leadership, citizenship, and social skills.
Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS.org) This University of Montana Rural Institute site describes the Social Security Work Incentive PASS, and has a searchable database of successful Plans and related resources.
Parents, Let’s Unite for Kids (PLUK) is a private, nonprofit organization formed in 1984 by Montana parents of children with disabilities and chronic illnesses to provide information, support, training and assistance useful to their children at home, school and as adults. PLUK serves families and individuals with disabilities of any age and at no cost.
Rocky Mountain Americans with Disabilities Act Leadership Network Provides assistance on ADA implementation.
Working for Equality and Economic Liberation (Helena) WEEL is a grassroots, economic and social justice organization made up of people experiencing poverty. WEEL members and their supporters use advocacy, action, and education to eradicate the myths, stereotypes, and stigmas that are harmful to low-income families. The priority is to ensure that those most affected by poverty are civically engaged and part of the democratic process from voting to policy creation and implementation.

ADAPT (American Disabled For Attendant Programs Today) Works to reverse the current and historical bias toward institutional facilities so that community based attendant services are the common option, and nursing homes are reserved as a last resort.
Advocating Change Together (ACT) Grassroots disability rights organization run by and for people with developmental and other disabilities. ACT helps people see themselves as part of a larger disability rights movement and make connections to other civil and human rights struggles.
Alliance for Health Reform A non-partisan, non-profit group that provides objective health-related information in a number of formats to journalists, elected officials and their staffs, and other shapers of public opinion.
American Association of People with Disabilities American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is dedicated to ensuring economic self-sufficiency and political empowerment for Americans with disabilities. The AAPD works in coalition with other disability organizations for the full implementation and enforcement of disability nondiscrimination laws.
Justice For All. Defends and advances disability rights and programs in the Congress, and works with national and state organizations of people with disabilities to get the word out from Washington D.C. to the grassroots.

American Indian Health sponsored by the National Library of Medicine, this web portal brings together health and medical resources pertinent to the American Indian population including policies, consumer health information, and research. Association for the Rights of Citizens with Disabilities, The ARC Educates the public about the needs of this nation’s 6 million citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Autism National Committee is the only autism advocacy organization dedicated to “Social Justice for All Citizens with Autism” through a shared vision and a commitment to positive approaches. AUTCOM protects and advances the human rights and civil rights of all persons with autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and related differences of communication and behavior.
Autistic Self-Advocacy Network is a non-profit organization run by and for Autistic people to provide support and services to individuals on the autism spectrum while working to change public perception and combat misinformation by educating communities about persons on the autism spectrum.
Barrier Breakers This for-profit business offers Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS) writing, benefits counseling, and training services. It also sells posters, PASS kits, and vocational rehabilitation materials. The web site provides Action Alerts, links to other web sites, information and a Social Security chat room.
Beach Center on Disability Publishes books, manuals and other materials on self-determination. Self-determination is the concept that a person with a disability should have the opportunity to choose what happens to himself, to receive education that enables him or her to make a choice, to be supported in making/carrying out a choice, and (consistent with age of majority and competence/incompetence) to be assured that others will heed the choice.

Express Yourself! Self-determination tool from the UIC National Research and Training Center on Psychiatric Disability. Independence through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid (ITEM) Coalition raises awareness and builds support for policies that will enhance access to assistive devices, technologies and related services for people with disabilities and chronic conditions. Kansas Personal Assistance Supports and Services (K-PASS) Self-Direction Toolkit: A Comprehensive Guide to Assist Individuals in Self-Direction Provides information and tools that people with disabilities need to hire personal assistants and manage their PA supports and services. The toolkit includes job descriptions, training information, emergency back-up plans and other useful resources.

Paralyzed Veterans of America. Provides resources for professionals and for people with paralysis, including “Living with SCI” area, sports and recreation resources, research and education and national advocacy.
Patient Rights and Responsibilities booklet published by Project MED (Medication EDucation for Consumers) at the Nisonger Center. Booklets are available in English and Spanish, and are designed for children, adolescents, and people with mental retardation, autism, reading difficulties, and/or severe mental illness. Polio Survivors Association Based in California, PSA works with other organizations and agencies to promote public policies that encourage home care for people with disabilities.Dedicated to education, advocacy, and support — provides educational material to those polio survivors who are experiencing the late effects of poliomyelitis and works closely with physicians and local polio support groups.
Ragged Edge This magazine focuses on disability and advocacy issues.
Resource Center to Promote Acceptance, Dignity and Social Inclusion Associated with Mental Health Describes stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness, how to counter this behavior, and what resources are available. Provides literature, speakers and information.
Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) ensures that people with disabilities are treated as equals and that they are given the same decisions, choices, rights, responsibilities, and chances to speak up to empower themselves; opportunities to make new friends; and to learn from their mistakes.

Spina Bifida Association of America Addresses the specific needs of infants, children and adults with spina bifida, their families, and professionals who serve them. As the national representative of over 70 chapters, provides information and referral services, publishes materials, funds research, provides training, and conducts individual and systems advocacy.
State Councils on Developmental Disabilities
Tardive Dyskinesia Center Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a movement disorder caused by taking certain neurological medications. TD is a result of damage to the bodily systems that process dopamine, and is typically caused by exposure to certain neurological medications – including Reglan. The symptoms of TD are irreversible and incurable, and mimic those of Parkinson’s disease. Tardive dyskinesia victims have involuntary, repetitive movements which often continue after the drug is no longer used. The center has the most up-to-date information on Tardive Dyskinesia Treatment options. Additionally, it distributes free wristbands to all users in hopes of raising TD awareness.
TASH The Association of People with Severe Handicaps is an international association of people with disabilities, their family members, other advocates, and professionals fighting for a society in which inclusion of all people in all aspects of society is the norm.

United Spinal Association is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization formed in 1946 by paralyzed veterans to improve the quality of life of Americans with spinal cord injuries and disorders. Membership is free and open to all individuals with spinal cord injuries and diseases.

Aging and Disability Resource Centers promote the integration of long-term care information and referral services, benefits and options counseling services, and access to publicly and privately financed services and benefits for those in need of long-term supports and their families. 43 states have ADRCs that serve older adults and individuals with disabilities. Area II Agency on Aging (Roundup) serves Big Horn County, Carbon County, Fergus County, Golden Valley County, Judith Basin County, Musselshell County, Petroleum County, Stillwater County, Sweet Grass County, Wheatland County, Yellowstone County and the Northern Cheyenne and Crow Indian Reservations.
A.W.A.R.E., Inc. (Anaconda) Delivers disability services for Montanans with challenging mental health, emotional and in some instances, physical disability needs who otherwise would be served in a more restrictive setting or perhaps not served at all.
BSW, Inc. (Butte) Provides individual plan coordination, intensive services, social activities, job development, community living, transportation, day services, community employment and community supports to individuals in Butte, Dillon and Anaconda who have vocational handicaps resulting from physical, developmental and/or psychological disabilities.
Child Development Center (Missoula) Provides family education and support, respite and a respite house, evaluation and diagnosis, Part C Early Intervention Family Education & Support, Intensive Family Education & Support, Intensive Supported Living, PASARR/MR Evaluation & Specialized Services.
Choteau Activities is a small, private, non-profit corporation in Choteau which provides work activity, day program, community homes, transitional living, independent living and transportation services to adults with developmental disabilities.
Community Option Resource (COR) Enterprises (Billings) Career Guidance Center provides work opportunities for individuals who have difficulty obtaining or maintaining jobs due to occupational barriers. Services include assessments, training, real-work situations, supported employment, anger management, driver’s education, personal and social services, and direct placement services. Also provides supported living and community support services for those in need of in-home support.
Consumer Direct Personal Care (Billings & Missoula offices, but coverage is statewide) allows individuals of any age with health care needs to remain in their homes and communities and to avoid placement in an institution. This program is for individuals who are capable of directing their own personal care services or appointing a Personal Representative to act on their behalf. Program requirements include: eligibility for Montana Medicaid; need for assistance with activities of daily living; need for assistance with instrumental activities of daily living; authorization by a health care professional that assistance is necessary; and completion of an assessment for placement in the program.
Counterpoint Inc. (Livingston) is a private, nonprofit corporation that has provided services to adults with disabilities in Park County since 1976. Counterpoint provides residential, vocational and transportation services to approximately 30 adults with disabilities who meet eligibility for funding through the Developmental Disabilities Program or who are referred by Vocational Rehabilitation.
Developmental Educational Assistance Program (Miles City) is a private not for profit corporation that provides family education and support, residential, and crisis intervention services to families whose children are birth to 18 years of age and adults. Services are provided in 28 eastern Montana counties. The main office is located in Miles City with satellite offices in Glendive, Lame Deer and Colstrip.
Easter Seals/Goodwill, Northern Rocky Mountain (Great Falls) Provides day care and preschool services to children with and without disabilities; serves adults with developmental disabilities, the elderly and adults with medical or physical disabilities; provides clinical services, including case management, home health care, home care, private-duty nursing, psychosocial rehabilitation, mental health counseling and case management and hospice; provides job-training and transitional employment for people with disabilities or other barriers to employment to assist them in finding and keeping a job; and provides free information and referral services, educational programs and durable equipment loans.
Hi-Line Home Programs (Glasgow) Provides adult supported living and community supports.
Job Connection (Billings) Private, non-profit corporation provides supported living services.
Mission Mountain Enterprises (Polson & Ronan) Provides personal and social services, and group home, apartment, roommate, home rental, and home ownership living arrangements for people with disabilities, based on each individual’s preferences, abilities and strengths, needs, and life span issues.
Missoula Developmental Services Corporation Operates seven group residences located in typical neighborhoods and offering a variety of experiences and options for residential living. Services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. MDSC also provides day services, with instructional emphasis on vocational skills, and including communication, survival skills and specialized therapies.
Montana Adaptive Equipment Program offers adaptive equipment services to Montanans with developmental disabilities. Services include an equipment recycle program, equipment loan, purchase of new equipment, and professional evaluations for determination of appropriate adaptive equipment.

Regional Access Mobility Program (RAMP) of Montana is a nonprofit charitable organization which builds interior and exterior wheelchair ramps and other accommodations for accessibility. Services include installing grab bars, widening doors, installing accessible cabinets, installing stair lifts and elevators, and modifying electrical and plumbing systems.
Region IV Family Outreach (Helena) Provides Family Education & Support services, Federal Part C Early Intervention services, General Fund services, and Family Education and Support- Intensive to 12 Southwestern Montana counties.
Resource, Support & Development, Inc. (RSD) (Billings) operates Billings Training Industries-West, Billings Senior Activity Program, Lake Elmo Group Home and Kathy Group Home in Billings, Recreational Adventures & Vacation Experiences (R.A.V.E.), Beartooth Industries/White Group Home and Cooper Group Home in Red Lodge, Snowy Mountain Industries/Snowy Mountain Home and Snowy Mountain Apartments in Lewistown, and Big Horn Industries/Crawford Group Home in Hardin.
Special K Ranch (near Columbus) Christian residential program serves adults, ages 18 and older, whose primary disability is mental retardation and who may need to live within a supportive community all of their lives. Residents must have at least basic self-help and communication skills. Special K Ranch serves 24 people in six separate residences.
Spring Meadow Resources (Helena) Provides vocational services that result in paid employment at a fair wage or in volunteer positions in the community. SMR manages six adult homes in the Helena area and provides supported living (independent living) services to people who live in their own homes. A senior day program is available for people aging with developmental disabilities. The Creative Activities Program is a component of the Day Programs for all adults with disabilities, along with a blind/low vision component, and the community volunteers component.
Support and Techniques for Empowering People (STEP, in Billings) Non-profit corporation offers home based services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families in 11 south central Montana counties. Services range from least to most restrictive for all age groups, and service delivery is always based upon individual strengths, needs and personal choice. Services are funded through state and federal dollars and are offered to eligible persons and families at no cost. Offered to the community at large is the Lifespan Respite Program that serves as a “hub” to link respite workers and resources with any family in need. In addition, STEP facilitates various activities designed to provide the public with general information about disability issues, and opportunities to get involved. Some of these activities include Empathy Training (to teach disability awareness), public presentations and the “Respitality Program”.

YWCA (Billings) Supported Living Program provides residential services to men and women with developmental disabilities in their own homes and apartments and family homes. Consumer-Directed Model Training Manual and Personal Care Attendant Handbook Developed by the Arkansas Independent Choices program, the Consumer-Directed training manual provides ideas and suggestions on hiring, training, and managing a personal care attendant. The Personal Care Attendant handbook provides training material to help personal care attendants do their jobs. Both manuals address hiring, communication and management issues.
Nursing Home to Community Program: A Discharge Planning Manual Designed to orient long-term care providers to the nursing home discharge process. Defines roles of the key partners who are involved in returning residents to community living and documents a standard protocol for accessing and maximizing partner resources.
Reaching Out Curriculum West Virginia Real Choice Systems Change grant created a turn-key curriculum to promote inclusive community support for West Virginians of all ages and all disability types. Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch (Billings) Psychiatric Residential Treatment Center provides multiple levels of residential treatment for seriously emotionally disturbed youth. Yellowstone Academy provides on-campus Special Education services. YBGR Community Homes provide less structured treatment settings that prepare and re-introduce youth back into their communities. The broad continuum of mental health services and programs also includes Case Management, Therapeutic Foster Care, In-Home Family Support, School Based Programs and Independent Living Program.

Facing Us enables those living with depression and bipolar disorder to create personal wellness tools to aid them on their road to recovery. Parenting With A Mental Illness: Programs and Resources Guide is a comprehensive resource to help parents, providers, and advocates find information about programs in their area. Polio Survivors Association Based in California, PSA works with other organizations and agencies to promote public policies that encourage home care for people with disabilities. Dedicated to education, advocacy, and support — provides educational material to those polio survivors who are experiencing the late effects of poliomyelitis and works closely with physicians and local polio support groups.
Project MED (Medication EDucation for Consumers) Medication information booklets, published by the Nisonger Center, provide patients with understandable information about the medications they are taking. Booklets are available in English and Spanish, and are designed for children, adolescents, and people with mental retardation, autism, reading difficulties, and/or severe mental illness. Each booklet costs $1.50, plus shipping and handling. Ordering information and sample pages are on the web site.
Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Positive Behavioral Support Provides extensive information and documents on definitions, features, and procedures in positive behavioral supports.
Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Substance Abuse, Disability and Employment Addresses substance abuse issues among individuals qualifying for vocational rehabilitation services. Collaborative sites include the Miami Valley Hospital, New York University, Ohio State University, and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Renfrew Center Foundation is a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization advancing education and research on eating disorders, and their prevention and treatment. It provides professional training and educational opportunities for mental health and medical professionals; produces educational seminars and publications for the public and participates in media activities; and conducts research into the pathology and recovery patterns of people with eating disorders.

Adult Community Services and Supports at The University of Montana Rural Institute offers technical assistance and training to businesses, rehabilitation service providers, consumers, and family members on best practices in supported employment, self-employment, Social Security Work Incentives, positive behavioral supports, functional vocational evaluation, leadership, and management.
AmeriCorps: Opening Doors to Community Service Helps Montanans with disabilities and their agency partners understand the opportunities that AmeriCorps programs offer, such as work experience in quality professional activities, and opportunities to make personal contacts that can lead to careers. Montanans with disabilities receive guidance in choosing the appropriate AmeriCorps experience. Montana disability organizations and service providers have access to a toll-free number, an internet site, and a one-step liaison to link persons with disabilities to all AmeriCorps state programs.
BSW, Inc. Provides individual plan coordination, intensive services, social activities, job development, community living, transportation, day services, community employment and community supports to individuals in Butte, Dillon and Anaconda who have vocational handicaps resulting from physical, developmental and/or psychological disabilities.
Choteau Activities is a small, private, non-profit corporation in Choteau which provides work activity, day program, community homes, transitional living, independent living and transportation services to adults with developmental disabilities.
Community Option Resource (COR) Enterprises Career Guidance Center provides work opportunities for individuals who have difficulty obtaining or maintaining jobs due to occupational barriers. Services include assessments, training, real-work situations, supported employment, and direct placement services. For those in need of in-home support, also provides supported living and community support services.
Counterpoint Inc. (Livingston) is a private, nonprofit corporation that has provided services to adults with disabilities in Park County since 1976. Counterpoint provides residential, vocational and transportation services to approximately 30 adults with disabilities who meet eligibility for funding through the Developmental Disabilities Program or who are referred by Vocational Rehabilitation.
Easter Seals/Goodwill, Northern Rocky Mountain (Great Falls) Provides job-training and transitional employment for people with disabilities or other barriers to employment to assist them in finding and keeping a job.
Helena Industries Offers a variety of employment options in four production and service divisions. People with and without disabilities work side by side in all facilities and services. Employees work in a bulk mail clearing house, on janitorial service crews, or in community jobs facilitated by the Montana Career Development Services. HI provides supported employment services, placement services, work experience, vocational evaluation, job readiness training, extended employment, and case management in eleven southwest Montana counties.

MammaCare Breast Self-examination Program for Women who are Blind or Visually Impaired Commercial site features a patented, tactually accurate model with a ribbon “necklace” to keep the model correctly positioned during training. Raised markers guide the woman while examining the model. The model contains small lumps that are virtually impossible to detect without training. The system includes an audiocassette and a descriptive video that teach proficient BSE through a series of carefully designed exercises, conducted first on the model and then on the woman herself. The kit also contains a large print booklet and Braille instructions.
